There goes Tokyo! Or more likely an American coastal city...

Yesterday Variety reported that Godzilla will returning to theaters in 2012 in a film produced by Legendary Pictures and Warner Brothers.

As you may recall, even if you don't want to, this is not the first time that an American Godzilla has been attempted. Mathew Broderick went up against the monster in Sony's 1998 flop attempt at a Godzilla movie.

According to the Variety, Legendary has stated that they will stay true to the original monster and distance themselves from the 1998 film.

  1. It would be a good idea to stick to the original formula, since J.J. Abrams set the let's-try-Godzilla-with-a-fresh-perspective bar ridiculously high with Cloverfield. Speaking of which, has there been any word on a Cloverfield II?
